Vancouver Drone Issues and Opinion

All drone users should be registered with Transport Canada. Any time a drone leaves the ground it is in Transport Canada and Nav Canada regulated air space. There are various exemptions for recreational users set out by Transport Canada to allow smaller crafts to fly unregulated. All commercial drone pilots must have an approved SFOC (Special Flight Operations Certificate) and insurance coverage to fly in Canada.

The most important element of using UAV’s/ drones is not putting overflying aircrafts and people in harms way. It is important to proactively take all safety measures to ensure each flight is safe and emergency protocols are ready to be implemented at a moments notice.

Moves Media has an open SFOC licence and extended insurance coverage. Our team has specific protocols we run through before each flight to make sure we are properly prepared. It takes experience to know what to do in an emergency situation. Many “rogue” drone users are new to the pilot profession and are not equipped to handle unforeseen circumstances. What do you do if you drone flies away and loose control? What do you do if an unexpected airplane is in your drones flight path? We encourage all drone users to operate safely and consult with a company or individual with experience before flying. Getting that amazing drone shot may seem exciting but various risks and hazards can quickly turn an exciting shot into a harmful outcome.
